If the blinds have been drawn all winter, open them up! If they’re slat binds keep them in the open position to let the sun shine in. If they’re woven, pull them all the way up as often as possible. Also, make sure the glass is sparkling clean. Next, if you have window treatments that are made of heavy fabrics or dark colors, change them out with something lighter. Mega stores carry drapery panels that allow you to do this inexpensively. Often times, once the treatments come off the windows, the room becomes so light and airy it’s a nice change to keep them off for the whole season.
Bring In New Color
You love those throw pillows on your sofa that bring out just the right brown from your favorite vase on the mantle. But if you look a little more closely, that vase might also have another color you like, something lighter or brighter. Focus on that new color. Buy a few new pillows. Maybe there’s another coordinating color you could use, add a few more accessories; a picture frame, flowers, a rug. By changing the pillow color, a chain reaction of color has begun in the room.
Bring In A New Arrangement
You can admit it, we’re all guilty of it – we move into our houses, arrange our furniture and NEVER move it again. In almost every house, there is more than one way to arrange a room. So, when you’re ready to switch things up for spring, take a good long look at your room. Bring furniture off of the walls, float the sofa in the room and put a sofa table behind it with a couple of lamps. It’s easy to have floor outlets wired. Angle pieces coming off the walls, be creative. Look in all of your rooms, you may want to bring something from a bedroom to the family room that you had never thought about before!
Bring In Paint
A fresh coat of paint is the perfect way to make a room feel like new. But if you’re going to go to all the trouble of getting out the equipment, taping the ceiling and getting out the old paint, take a moment and make sure you still want the same color. Now is the perfect time to shake things up. Even changing the color slightly will give you a whole new room.
Bring In Art
Adding a new piece of artwork is certain to liven up your space. One large piece is always striking, but grouping many smaller pieces together makes a huge impact as well. Remember the rule of thumb is to hang the piece so that the center of the artwork is 60” from the floor. If you are hanging something over a mantle allow 4 – 6” between the mantle and art.
